4.0 Cemetery
4.1. Ratification of the decision to allow the burial of Mr Alcock was proposed by Cllr. Waters and seconded by Cllr. Conroy - results of voting were
onethree for and two abstentions; the vote was carried and the decision ratified.
4.2. The Councillors reviewed the events of the week at length, including the letter received from Canon Peverell. Cllr. Mrs. Imeson reported that the Regulations written in August 2004 had not intended to preclude residents from Little Ayton; Little Ayton had previously been linked with Great Ayton under the Great Ayton and Little Ayton Burial Committee; Easby had never been part of this Committee. It was further reported that the space in the Cemetery was limited. The Councillors were sympathetic with the fact that there was no church or graveyard at Easby and whilst Easby was in the ecclesiastical parish it was not in the civil parish. Cllr. Readman commented that he felt as Easby should be included with Great Ayton; this view did not receive further support. It was identified that there was a need to clarify the Cemetery Regulations in relation to burials and cremated remains.
4.3. Cllr. Mrs. Greenwell proposed the following changes to the Cemetery Regulations in relation to the classification of burials for residents:
Burial in Great Ayton Cemeteryshould beis restricted to:• Residents whose normal place of abode at the time of death was within the Civil Parish boundaries of Great Ayton and Little Ayton.
• A former resident who qualifies as above and who died in a nursing/care home or hospital/hospice outside the specified boundaries.
• Those persons with a current or future grave reservation.
• Serving members of the armed forces. The proposal was seconded by Cllr. Mrs. J. Imeson – results of the voting were three for and two abstentions, the vote was carried and the decision to change the Regulations made. It was agreed that a Civil Parish Map should be sent with the notification of changes to all relevant parties.
4.4 Changes to the Regulations relating to cremated remains were deferred to the next Parish Council Meeting.
The date of the next meeting will be Tuesday 7th September 2010, in the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum Shop.
