THE 2010 GREAT AYTON VILLAGE FETE
*** RESERVE THE DATE - 12th JUNE 2010 ***
In 2008 the traditional biennial Great Ayton Village Fete, held on the 14th June in brilliant sunshine was hailed once again as a resounding success.
The sports events on the Low Green were well organised by the Conservative Club and local children competed enthusiastically for honours in the races. The Parade, headed by the Union Jack, Langbaugh Brass and Village Banners, marched from Low to High Green through the High Street lined with crowds of cheering villagers. The 7 floats were drawn this year by local vintage tractors. They depicted popular nursery rhymes and carried a huge number of children disguised as blackbirds, kings and queens, ladies in waiting, shepherdesses to name but a few.
The Rt Hon William Hague opened the Fete, presented the prizes for the sports, the floats and the fancy dress with his customery good humour, and spent time walking through the crowds enjoying the fun of the fair.
Local groups promoted their activities at stalls round the High Green offering a wide range of produce and material available for all while Langbaugh Brass continued to entertain throughout the afternoon with their special brand of excellent music.
It was a splendid traditional village day and thanks go out the numerous willing helpers who made the day such a success. Some images of the previous events are reproduced below.
